Inthe1960'sBrazil,aconstructioncrewishardatworkbuildingahighwaydeepintheheartofthedesert.Amilitarycoupinthecapitalleavesthemenabandonedliterallyinthemiddleofnowhere.Withagoodstockofprovisionsandfrequentvisitsfromthelocalprostitutes,themenarecopingjustfine.SoonJuliao,anindigenousIndianarrives.Heteachesthemhisculture'sworshipofthemeteorites.TheworkerscometobelievethatfatehasabandonedtheminadeeplyspiritualplaceandthusthecommunityofMETEOROisborn.Aplaceofgoodhumor,gentleanarchyandfreelove,theconstructioncrew,nolongerwishestobegoverned,andthoughtsofreturninghomesoonfade,untiloneday,thegovernmentreappearsbringingwiththemdarkpoliticalmotivestothemen'smakeshiftparadise.METEOROisatrulycharmingfilmfeaturinganinternationalensemblecastthatwillhaveyouleavingthetheaterwithasmileonyourface.<br/> DirectorDiegodelaTexera'smagicrealistfableMeteoro(AKAMeteorite,2006)unfoldsinApril1960,atthetimeofBrasilia'sinaugurationasthenewcapitalofBrazil.AsdelaTexera'sfilmopens,theBraziliangovernmentorderstheconstructionofamajorhighwaybetweenBrasiliaandtheremainderofthecountry.TheworkcrewassignedtobuildthestretchbetweenRiodeJaneiroandFortalezamustlaborinaseverelyunderdeveloped,barrenregion,surroundedbythousandsofsquaremilesofuninhabitedBrazilianwilderness.Eachmonth,thegovernmentofficeinchargeofthecrewsendsprovisionstotheunsupervisedworkers,includingacadreofprostitutesknownas"Madam'sGirls".Theunit'sconditionnonethelessdeteriorateseverfurther,until-onthenightofamilitarycoupd'etat-ayellowmeteoritestreaksacrosstheskyandhitstheground,causingafountaintoopen.Soonafter,Juliao,aBrazilianIndian,turnsupandteachestheworkershowtodrawonthepracticesoftheancientstodecodethemessageswritteninthestars.Together,theworkersestablishavillage,christenit'Meteoro,'andlivetherecontentedlyuntilaBrazilianmilitaryhelicopterturnsup.<br/> DiegodelaTexerawasoneofthefoundersofSandinoFilmes,apioneeringfilmcompanyinSanJuan,whereheworkedformanyyearsascinematographerandproducer.Inthe70'shemigratedtoElSalvador,wherehewrote,photographedanddirectedthedocumentary"ElSalvador:elpueblovencerá"(1980),whichwonfirstprizeattheMoscowInternationalFilmFestivalandHavanaNewLatinAmericanFilmFestival.AfterlivinginVenezuelaandheadingthecinematographydepartmentattheInternationalSchoolofFilmandTelevisioninHavana,hemetBrazilianfilmmakerTetéVasconcellos("ElSalvador:AnotherVietnam")andmovedtoRiodeJaneiro.HestillworksinPuertoRicanproductionsandinMexico.
