朱尔斯·福瑟曼1915年开始电影剧本创作时，还是一名杂志和报纸撰稿人。美国参加一战后，福瑟曼因本名德国色彩过浓而改用"斯蒂芬·福克斯"的笔名进行创作，战后才恢复使用真名。他后来成为好莱坞黄金时代最高产、最知名的编剧之一，曾执笔《叛舰喋血记》（1935）、《江湖侠侣》（1944）、《玉面情魔》（1947）等多部影史经典作品。
