The transport of coveted spices from the Far East to Europe was very expensive in the 14th and 15th centuries due to the long trade route. To cut costs, they looked for the Northwest Passage. About 30 expeditions failed. Finally, after 350 years, the passage was found, but proved useless because of the ice. Peter Milger tells of the attempts to discover the Northwest Passage and shows a wealth of legacies from the famous expeditions in the eternal ice.
