Sisters Shigeko and Matsuko are daughters of a wealthy family in Osaka. While Matsuko is a dazzling socialite, Shigeko is refined and reserved, hiding a wilder, more monstrous side of herself. In 1927, the sisters meet renowned author Tanizaki Junichiro, whose sensual writing captivates them. As they dance with him at a dance hall, Shigeko becomes convinced that he is the only man who can truly see the woman she keeps hidden within.
