1960, Moscow. A sudden outbreak of black smallpox — a deadly disease believed eradicated in the USSR — shocks the city. The KGB assigns Colonel Shilov to prevent a potential epidemic. He takes the case immediately: he has unfinished business with smallpox. His mission is to find all infected individuals and stop the virus. But the task is far from simple. The infection has seeped into the shadowy side of Moscow’s life — currency dealers, underground gambling, prostitution, and drugs. Shilov must dive deep into the criminal underworld, dragging its inhabitants and their secrets into the light.
