The period of rise and fall of the Fugger family was traced in the elaborate production. The starting point is Hans Fugger, who went to Augsburg as a simple farmer, learned the weaving trade there and raised it from journeyman to master craftsman. The high point of the Fugger period was the reign of Jakob Fugger, known as the Rich, who made the company a power institution in the empire and was considered one of the wealthiest men of his era. With his death, however, the slow decline of the family began, to the point of insignificance. The series describes the structure of that epoch, the influence of the church and the pope, the turbulent time of the Reformation and peasant wars, the corporate society.
