Super Doctors

Some doctors consciously take a risk by using new treatment methods. They are the pioneers of medicine who dare to experiment to develop therapies for previously incurable diseases. Their courage may save thousands of lives in the future. But what happens to patients whose lives can only be saved by a new and risky treatment? This fascinating new BBC series explores not only the latest advances in medicine, but also the human fate behind each case. The cases in this series presented by Prof. Robert Winston are anything but ordinary: Whether transgenic organ transplantation between animals and humans, operations for deep hypothermia, in which the body temperature is mechanically lowered to 15 degrees Celsius - or interventions in the womb of unborn babies - These extreme medical cases have one thing in common: They push boundaries and, despite the fascination for what is scientifically possible, are the subject of ethical debates.
