Threatened paradises

Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote: the Canary Islands are the top holiday destination for millions of Germans. Everything is offered here, including entertainment in the hotel and German beer on the beach. But the Canaries also have another side. A few kilometers behind the beach, inland, you can find almost untouched landscapes, only a few tourists get lost here. But paradise is threatened: Hotels are still being built and renovated in the middle of nature reserves. Often illegally and without a building permit. Sometimes the Spanish judiciary intervenes, but it has hardly achieved anything. Hotel owners and building contractors are too powerful. And German tourism groups often make money too.
