The triumphal march of the Mongols under their legendary ruler Genghis Khan began in the 13th century from a small central area of the Asian steppe. The two-part documentation aims to trace the myth of the nomadic people and uses the latest findings from archaeologists and historical sources. Genghis Khan's successors reached the Christian West and would certainly have reached the Atlantic - but they disappeared as suddenly as they had come. The Mongolian storm shook Europe to its foundations. The panicked fear of alien warriors "from hell" led to the formation of legends. But where are the boundaries between poetry and truth?
