In 1958, two British adventurers managed for the first time to cross the South American continent on foot from its easternmost point on the Atlantic to its westernmost point on the Pacific coast. A route that has it all, it goes through the dense Amazon jungle and over the Andes. Fifty years later, a team from NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC sets out to retrace the path of the first expedition. Although the participants are equipped with off-road vehicles, GPS receivers and numerous other modern aids, the route proves to be a formidable challenge.
