
When the Soviet Union became a nuclear power in 1949, the Americans decided to arm their bombers with nuclear weapons from now on. One of these planes crashes during a secret mission. It is the first known accident of its kind. But in the years that followed, atom bombs were repeatedly lost in crashes. They do not detonate, but large amounts of radioactivity are released.
