Masha Izimova dreams of becoming a doctor and getting married. But, failing the exams, she goes to work as a nurse in a hospital, and her fiancé Volodya proposes to Irene, the daughter of a wealthy businessman Anatoly Voskoboinikov. Masha is not even comforted by the fact that Volodya's brother, Alexei, confesses his love to her.
