The film shows the memoirs of the honored teacher Nikolai Gudkov about the years of his youth, about the school of the 1920s. The teacher tells his memories to a young journalist Varya for three evenings. He talks about his friends, enemies, a teacher who was an example for him, and his first youthful love.
