InBillyRoiszscloseyoureyesknockingandrhythmicallyvibratingsoundstakeusfromablackpictureintoadarkenedroom,itsshadespulleddown.Atthefilmsbeginningapositiveandnegativeimageofawindowthatreferencesthisspacerevealsitsfunctionasaprojectionscreeninhypnotic,almostpsychedelicaudiovisualcompositions.Roiszskillfullytakesusfurther,fromthisrealspaceinthebeginningsequencetoabstractblack-and-whiteimagescomposedoffinelinesthatmoveintimewiththefragilesoundtrack,turnintodottedlines,thenimmediatelypuncturethislinearity.High-frequencysoundsandscratchingnoisesbythemusiciandieb13andarrangementsofimagesthatdazzlinglyflareupcovertheseverticallinestoanevergreaterextent.Atfirst,ashadowydetailofthewindowleadsback,againandagain,fromthefastpaceofabstractimagestothatoftheprivatespaceforbriefmoments.Accompaniedbyshrillhigh-pitchedsounds,distortedbrassinstrumentsandgentlepsychedelicnoises,theviewerisleadintohypnoticallycolorfulgraphiccompositions.Occasionallyrecognizableinatrance-likeflurryofimages,atsecondglanceanimageofaherdofhippopotamusesorgrazinggiraffes,tintedpink,revealsitselfforafewsecondsatatime.Vibratingyellowish-graystripesflowintoablack-and-whitestripedpattern,callingaherdofzebrastomind.Blackframespunctuatedinstaccatofashionthenshowthewindow,heraldingtheendofthedeliriousdance:thereturntotherealspace.BillyRoisz,inspiredbythehallucinogenicexperiencesofpainter,writerandpoetHenriMichaux,hasundertakenafascinatingtripintotheabstractandabsurdandtothelimitsofourperceptiveability.
