Thisworkisapieceofaudiovisualpoetry,acompositionalworkconsistingofimagesandsound.Itisconstructedwith2-channelvideoand4-channelsoundinfourparts(part1:emptycity;part2:dayofthecity;part3:still/silent;part4:A.I.). “still/silent”isaseries.IthasbeenstagedasasoundperformanceandperformativeAVinstallationatvariouslocationssinceOctober2007,aswellwithinthescopeoftheexhibitions“RE-IMAGININGASIA”and“Peace-UtopiaorRealSpace”inBerlin,and“Luso-PhoniaandEtSonaPoblenou?“inBarcelonain2008. Thevideoandsoundfocusondifferenttempi,rhythmsandcityscapes.Arangeofvideoandsoundmaterialwasrecordedoncameratoursthroughdifferentcitiesandisusedtocreateanewvision.Withthevideoandsoundcollagesthathaveevolvedfromthismaterial,anexpressiveformisdeveloped—onethatissituatedbetweentheboundariesoftangibleandabstractexpression.Asensationoftimeandspacearecreatedwiththe2-channelvideoand4-channelsound.Thesound/tonemeetswiththeimages,intertwiningwiththembeforedetachingagaintoindependentlyevolve.Thecorrelationtakesshapeintheeye/earofthebeholder/listener,resultinginanongoingdialog. “still/silent”doesnotdealprimarilywiththesubjectofpeace;instead,itusespeaceasasubtleleitmotifwhich,asapieceofaudiovisualpoetry,isdividedintofourparts.Onmusicalandvisuallevels,itisportrayedasabeneficialstateoftranquillityandcalmness,astheabsenceofnoiseandturmoil. Thefourpartsofthesoundperformancearepartofthe“still/silent”audiovisualinstallation.Thenewlyrecordedsoundmaterialfromtherespectivecitiesandlocationsisintegratedinthesoundperformance.Togetherwiththesampler,instrumentorgrandpianoandliveelectronics,thesoundperformanceisbasedonmelodious,musicalinteractions.Itwillbesimultaneouslyrecordedandtheserecordingswilllaterbepresentedasasoundinstallationtogetherwiththeentire“still/silent”audiovisualinstallation.
