ThreedistinctlocationsarebroughttogetherinthisfilmThreeStudiesinGeography(2011),whichencompassesthreepreviouslyseparatefilmsmadeoverthelasttenyears.Eachlocationpresentsaparticularbalanceofland,skyandwater.ThefirstpartofthefilmisastudyoftheirrigationcanalsofsouthLincolnshire.Thecameraisalwaysstaticandtheframingisalwaysthesame.ParttwoofthefilmfocusesonanaturallyformingjettyonthenorthKentcoast.The'street'isfilmedatlowtideovertheperiodofamonth-itsshapebeingdeterminedbythedailyshiftsintidalpatterns;sometimesmoreofthestreetisseen,sometimesless.Thefilm'sfinalpartisastudyofacircularman-madeislandofftheeastcoastofEngland.Theislandwaspartofatrialintheearly1970stoseeiffreshwatercouldbecollectedfromnearbyriversandstoredoutatsea.Seawatereventuallypermeatedtheislandandtheprojectwasabandoned.Ithassincebecomeabirdcolony.Thefinalsectionofthefilmisacircumnavigationoftheislandin36shots.Thesoundtrackisacontinuousrecordingmadewhilewalkingaroundtheisland. NeilHenderson'sworkhasencompassedmultipleprojectorpieces,experimentswiththematerialityoffilmandphotography,andfilmsaboutlandscape.HisworkhasbeenshownatDiversionsFilmFestival,Edinburgh;theOnionCityFilmFestival,Chicago;Kettle'sYard,Cambridge;AnthologyFilmArchives,NewYorkandModernArtOxford.In2009hisfilmCircleswasshortlistedfortheJerwoodDrawingprize.HisworkisdiscussedinNickyHamlyn'sFilmArtPhenomena(London:BFI,2003).HestudiedattheKentInstituteofArtandDesignandtheSladeSchoolofArtandteachesFilmStudiesatAngliaRuskinUniversity,Cambridge.
