Originallyfilmedin16mmintheremoteCypruslandscape,Chaptersisalyricalseriesofmeticulouslystagedscenes,inwhichEpaminondatransformsherhomecountryintoabackdropforamultitudeofmythologicalidentitieswithunderlyingnarrativeelementsoflove,longing,afterlifeandritual.EpaminondadrawstogetheraspectrumofculturalinfluencessuchasthefrescoesofRenaissanceartistFraAngelico,thefilmsofSergeiParajanov,PierPaoloPasoliniandAlexanderJodorowskyaswellastheJapaneseKabukitheatreandDante’sDivineComedy.Thefixedframeofthecamerashapesthefilmasacontinuouslyevolving,never-staticseriesof‘pictures’or‘tableaux’.Theviewerisledintoanassociativejourneythatisconstantlyalteredandrecombinedbytheactionofchance,timeandtheviewer’sgaze.Thescreensrunindependentlyinanon-consecutiveorder,displayedsimultaneouslywithoutbeginningorend,totallinginafour-hourlongaudiovisualinstallation.
