DavidBek,Armeniannationalhero,leadstheliberationstruggleofArmeniansagainstPersianconquerorsintheXVIIIcentury.HewasoneofthemostprominentfiguresoftheArmenianliberationmovementagainsttheSafavidandOttomanoccupyingforces.In1722-25withdirectsupportfromMkhitarSparapet,heheadedthearmedstruggleofSyunik(particularlyfromKapan)andArtsakhArmeniansagainstSafavids,whichledtothealmostcompleteexpulsionofTatars(nowknownasAzeris)fromEasternArmenia.In1726-28ArmeniansundertheleadershipofBekfoughtwithOttomanforces,thatwereattemptingtoconquerTranscaucasia.<br/> In1944,DavidBekthemoviewasfilmedbydirectorAmoBek-NazaryanwithHrachiaNersisyanstarringasDavidBek.In1978ArmenfilminassociationwithMosfilmproducedanothermovieabouttheeffortsofDavidBekandMkhitarSparapetcalledStarofHope.DavidBekwasportrayedbyGeorgianactorEdisherMagalashvili.
