
IntroductiontoAnotherLifeisanadaptationofanovelwiththesamenamebyMirkoKovac,whowasalsothescriptwriterforthefilm.Asinhisotherworks,hisacutesenseforblackhumorandfantasyadornsKovac'snarrativewithasimultaneousandperpetualquestforsignsoftheother-worldlyinconcretehistoricaltime.Here,grotesqueexpressionfunctionstoexposethemonstrousroleofthecommunistheritage.Kovac'snarrative,combinedwiththeminimalistandoriginaldirectingofMisaRadivojevicdisclosesthatitispreciselytheearlyhistoryofJosipBrozTito'sYugoslavia,markedwithabsolutismandthecrimesofthestatesecurityforces,thatmakesanidealterrainfortheappearanceofother-worldlyforces,aboveallthosethatbelongtothePrinceofDarkness.Evilspirits,ghostsofthedead,satanicblackmasses–allthesedemonologicalpropsbrilliantlydescribetheperiodofearlycommunistrule.<br/> ThroughthecharactersofRodin(AleksandarBercek),acaptaininthestatesecurityorganizationandhissuperior,anevilspiritincarnatedinthefigureofamajorinTito'ssecretservice(PredragEjdus),thegrotesqueinRadivojevic'sfilmmanifeststheeerieandthedemonicthatisoftenhiddenbehindtheideaofhistoricalprogressanditsagents.Withastylizedtypeofacting,masks,make-up,reducedlighting,andchamber-likeambiance,thedemonicprincipleof"history"isembodiedandmadeconcreteinoneepoch.Apartfromallthehorrorandmonstrositycarriedinsidetheprotagonistsofthisdrama,IntroductiontoAnotherLifepossessesasubtlesenseofhumorandthehighspiritsofafairytale,withoutwhich,dealingwiththeforcesofdarknesswouldnotmakemuchsense.Kayser'sideathatthegrotesqueisanattempttorestrainthedemonicintheworldisthusconfirmed.
