
IraqitheaterdirectorMohsenSadoonYasinhasspentmuchofhislifeininvoluntaryexile.Hisdaughter,IshtarYasinGutiérrez,hasconstructedalovingfilmportraitofherfather,andanelegyforahomelandtowhichtheycanneverreturn—partlybecauseithaschangedsomuch,andpartlybecauseitwasperhapsalwaysmoreaconceptthanareality.<br/> Thefilmmakertracksherfather’sglobaltravelsusingfamilyphotographs,theatrepostersandnewspaperclippings,aswellassoundrecordingsandextractsfromletterstheysenttooneanother,withstampsfromCostaRica,ChileandDenmark.Andshefilmsherfatherinthehereandnow,capturinghisface,hishand,hisstories.<br/> Thereislittlestructure,atleastnotinthechronologicalsense.Thefilmisapatchworkofimaginings,texturesandreferences—referencestotheater,ritualsandSumeriancosmology.ThereisalsotheconstantpresenceofIraq,theinaccessiblecorethatMohsenSadoonYasincarrieswithinhim,alongwiththefolksongsstillechoinginhismind.
