Jack Richard Waltz (December 6, 1924 – August 13, 1972) was an American film and television actor. He was credited in his first film as Philip Shawn. Born in Akron, Ohio, the younger son of two male children born to Frank and Lucy Leona (née Dugan) Waltz, he had an elder brother, Frank. Waltz attended Coventry High School. On May 29, 1943, aged 18, he enlisted in the U.S. military and served three years during World War II. He was discharged from service on April 7, 1946. He began his career in 1950, starring in the film The Sun Sets at Dawn, playing "The Boy", credited as Philip Shawn. He then appeared in Flight Nurse (1953), which starred Joan Leslie and Forrest Tucker. He also appeared in the 1954 film It Should Happen To You.
