Shugoro Yamamoto is a writer who wrote about the thoughts of ordinary people living hard, such as ``Sabu'' and ``The Fir Tree Remained.'' ``Yamatsubaki'' is a story about two cousins who go through the bitter ordeal of a young wife's single-minded love and finally find true love. [Story] Michi is the cousin of Kajiwara's main horse, and has been apart of the Kajiwara family ever since their parents died. The main horse is getting married to the chief retainer's daughter, Kinu, and Michi moves in with a distant relative. However, Kinu not only refuses to speak to his master, but also continues to protect Misao, and even tries to commit suicide. Shuuma learns that Kinu has a crush on a man and consults Michi. Michi tells the other man, Ryozaburo Enomoto, that Kinu committed suicide and advises him to rehabilitate himself for Kinu's sake. Then, when Ryozaburo was rehabilitated, he introduced him to Kinu. The main horse notices Michi's existence, and the two get married.
