The librettist Linda Valore wants to make the musical event “Peon Messiah” a great success at the Salzburg Festival. The rehearsals only began when the tenor canceled and the festival management distanced itself from the performance. The trigger for this catastrophe is Frank Leroux, the composer. He constantly changes his work, insults the tenor as an incompetent backwater singer and attacks the conductor Alexander von Berkin with his jealousy. It's Linda Valore who turns things around to keep the project from dying. Rehearsals take place day and night in Klesheim Castle, the star tenor Carlo del Monti is hired and Frank Laroux is admitted to a sanatorium because of his alcohol problem. The premiere of this unique work is imminent, but dramatic disputes endanger the premiere. Once again it is the gifted, but consumed by doubts, composer Frank Laroux who considers his work to be worthless rubbish.
