Dvojí život

Žofka, daughter of the chauffeur Dražil, leaves for Prague. She finds a job and wants to live independently, but she is determined to return to the village later and marry the locksmith Jan Rokyta, who loves her. Her sister Jiřina loves the son of a Remeš landowner, Jaroslav. Remeš does not approve of his relationship with Jiřina, only uncle František, the director of the Prague factory, is inclined towards his nephew's love. He therefore takes Jiřina in and wants to give her an education. In Prague, Žofka becomes involved with the con artist Rudolf Slaba, who wants to get to know director Remeš through her. But then he succeeds with the help of a trick and without Žofča's help. Žofka warns Remeš that Slaba wants to rob him, but in the end he covers Slaba from the police. Slaba would like to clean himself from Žofka and start a new life together with her. However, he is no longer able to do so and ends up committing suicide.
