The best way to get to know Eastern Europe is to listen to the people on the spot. The writer and columnist Jaap Scholten, who lives in Hungary, does this with a lease on gypsy wisdom to which he attaches great value: 'a dog that runs finds bones'. Traveling east through Hungary/Transylvania, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro and Bulgaria, he travels through a slowly disappearing world and collects the stories and myths like no other.
