Wide views. Dense forests. Idyllic river valleys and lush mountain meadows. The Erzgebirge between Saxony and Bohemia is a colorful mosaic of wild originality and newly created cultural landscapes. An area rich in rocks, where 850 years of mining has left its mark like no other low mountain range in the world. But the times when forest dieback in the Ore Mountains on both sides of the border made international headlines are over. Today, unique habitats for endangered plants and animals are emerging again. With new ideas, people are making their Erzgebirge fit for the future between tradition and modernity.
