Forest Ballad
In the first days of the war, the ten-year-old girl Aigul, the daughter of a Soviet officer, loses her mother. A sick, exhausted girl is hidden from the Nazis by an old miller and his grandson Fedya. In front of the children, the Germans kill their grandfather, suspecting him of having connections with the partisans. The children are left alone. In search of partisans, the Nazis conduct wholesale searches and during one of them they discover a Kazakh girl. She faces deportation to Germany as an exotic souvenir - an “Asian girl from Russia” for the wife of the German Vollmer. Fedya, with the help of fellow villagers, manages to kidnap Aigul. But the courageous girl goes out to the Germans, since the order has been given to hang every sixth resident. And at that moment, when the punitive forces were ready to triumph, the partisans surrounded the square.
